Vacancy: Chair of Governors for City Academy Norwich Governing Board
City Academy Norwich (CAN) is stand-alone secondary Academy supported by Bohunt Education Trust (BET), a pioneering multi-academy trust where the highest expectations, unparalled opportunity and highly effective teaching combine to create students who are “game changers.”
City Academy Norwich is a dynamic, nurturing learning community that holds the highest expectations and aspirations for our students and staff. Our ethos is encapsulated by three simple words. Enjoy Respect Achieve.
We expect the Chair to lead the governing body and ensure that it meets its responsibilities under the CAN / Bohunt Education Trust scheme of delegation. In summary our governing body:
• implements the Academy and the Trust’s overarching strategy and priorities
• promotes the delivery and implementation of the Academy and the Trust’s vision and ethos to the Academy community
• provides proactive support and challenge to the Headteacher
• represents and promotes the Academy in its local community;
• advises the rest of the CAN Board about local issues (whether within the Academy or the wider community) that may affect the Academy
The Chair of City Academy Norwich Local Governing Body may have some relevant educational experience (perhaps as a school governor), ideally within a secondary school environment. Being part of our aspirational Academy comes with the benefit of specialist training and support, from external training providers and from other experienced Chairs within BET.
The average time commitment is about 10 hours per month, although it will vary depending on the needs of the Academy and the role. This includes meetings, background reading and Academy visits. Most Governing Body meetings will take place in the evenings. A Disclosure and Barring Service with section 128 check is required for this role.
