WAB is looking for qualified person for the position of Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). SLP is part of a multidisciplinary support services team at WAB. The SLP provides diagnostic assessment and intervention services to students who require speech, language, and communication supports across the campus; as well as consultation services on how to accommodate, adapt, and modify students’ educational and developmental program. The role involves delivering individual and/or small group therapy sessions, supporting teachers with strategies and resources in the classroom, and providing functional programs that can be implemented by the teacher assistants throughout the week. The SLP will work in collaboration with other support services team members to provide inclusive education programs and services.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Work Goals and Purpose:

The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is part of a multidisciplinary support services team at WAB. The SLP provides diagnostic assessment and intervention services to students who require speech, language, and communication supports across the campus; as well as consultation services on how to accommodate, adapt, and modify students’ educational and developmental program. The role involves delivering individual and/or small group therapy sessions, supporting teachers with strategies and resources in the classroom, and providing functional programs that can be implemented by the teacher assistants throughout the week. The SLP will work in collaboration with other support services team members to provide inclusive education programs and services.

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Relevant Master's degree.  
  • Registered member of a Speech and Language professional accrediting body (e.g.American Speech Language Hearing Association)
  • Experience with inclusive practices in a school setting
  • Minimum two years' experience in providing school-based speech and language programs and services to multilinguistic student body
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong team facilitation and problem-solving skills.  
  • Outstanding human relations skills, including a positive, “can do” attitude, and a commitment to collaborative teamwork.

Tasks & Responsibilities 

Coordination and Collaboration 

  • Provides evidence-based and targeted speech and language intervention to students with the purpose of maximizing access to the curriculum and facilitating learning success
  • Administers screening and standardized assessment to record baseline, track progress, and measure outcome
  • Aligns speech and language services to WAB’s model of co-planning, co-teaching and co-assessing through class-based interventions which are integrated into the curriculum.
  • Provides speech and language goals for student support plan in consultation with parents, teachers and other support services team member
  • Provides teachers with recommendations for curriculum adaptation and strategies for classroom modifications
  • Provides individualized strategies and resources that can be implemented in the classroom by the teaching assistants and/or Specialized Educational Assistants.
  • Collaborates with the EAL and Languages department in goal setting, service delivery, and progress monitoring of students in the SLP register
  • Manages and updates speech and language resources, materials, and equipment effectively

 

Communication 

  • Maintains professional status and competence level by engaging in continuous professional development to keep abreast of current research in supporting language development in multilinguistic environment
  • Communicates referral, assessment, intervention, and evaluation procedure of speech and language services to the WAB community
  • Participates in case management, clinical care, and organizational meetings to discuss students’ needs and therapy progress
  • Delivers training and workshops to parents, teachers and other school staffs in areas related to speech, language, and communication skills
  • Establishes a positive, collaborate relationship with students, teachers and families to increase student engagement and achievement in and out of therapy sessions

 

Case Management 

  • Develops and maintains a register of students requiring speech, language, and communication services
  • Organizes own timetable balancing case management, team responsibilities and time allocation towards school, professional and personal objectives
  • Participates in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with complex and intensive learning needs
  • Maintains records of assessment and intervention according to professional standards of confidentiality
  • Facilitates discussions with parents, teachers, counselors, and administration that support students’ progress
